Meet Our Board of Directors

Antonia Steinberg

President

I, Antonia (she/her) will be serving as the President. I have lived eleven summers at Buck’s Rock, beginning as a camper and evolving from counselor-in-training (CIT) into counselor. I credit Buck’s Rock with shaping and defining my life. The unique philosophy of Buck’s Rock opened me up to incomparable opportunities and freedom, and set me up with skills and competencies that have carried me into and through my senior year at RISD. Buck’s Rock gave me an advantage in life! This is why it was important to me to find a way to make Buck’s Rock more accessible, casting the net of this extraordinary opportunity to a broader and more diverse group of campers.

Alek Glogowski

Treasurer

Alek (he/him) came to Buck’s Rock in 2011 when he discovered ceramics as a camper and was glued to a wheel for six weeks. He spent the following two summers as a CIT in the Ceramics Shop, then two years on staff as a Ceramics JC and Guidance Counselor. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 2018 and is now a Project Manager at Permasteelisa North America, a high-rise architectural façade contractor. He has been working on his current project, 425 Park Ave in Manhattan, for over two years, and his current responsibilities include managing project budgets, schedules and site installation. He credits his early professional growth to the foundation and framework that was cultivated summer after summer. Buck’s Rock showed him that creativity does not just present in the art that you create. In life, you have every opportunity to think “outside-the-box” and use your creativity as a tool to solve any problem.

Erica Babad

Secretary

Erica Babad (she/her) began her Buck’s Rock journey in 1968, at age 13, where she spent most of her time singing, playing guitar and recorder, hanging out in ceramics, and helping in Pub. She found that she felt most at home working on the farm, where she became a CIT and JC. In her years as a staff member (1978-1996), she held various positions: guidance counselor; puppetry, mime, and clown counselor; and co-director of the CIT program. She considers Buck’s Rock as an affirming and transformative force in her life, and is thrilled that her daughter, Zoe, was able to enjoy a similar experience as a camper, CIT, and JC. She is ecstatic to be part of camp again in this new incarnation.

Outside of camp, Erica performed with movement theater and puppet companies and worked as a teaching artist in the schools. She holds Masters’ degrees in Theater and Education, and recently retired after twenty years as Director of the Riverdale Country School Infant Toddler Center. She is currently indulging her passions for playing recorder and guitar, gardening, doing crossword puzzles, and making little things out of clay. She has remained close with many friends from her years at camp, and still has a fondness for cows and goats.

Sharon Ullman

Chair

Sharon Ullman (she/her) is currently consulting with foundations and non-profit organizations after 12 years as the Deputy Director at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. In addition to other positions, she has devoted her nearly thirty-five-year career to providing leadership, programmatic and organizational strategies and management and financial acumen to both for profit and non-profit organizations in order to advance creative and artistic endeavors and organizations. She is a longtime advocate for artists and the arts both through her work and in her personal life, including seeing firsthand how Buck’s Rock Camp made a profound impact on her own teen’s life and future. She is honored to bring her professional expertise and personal experience to work alongside the Buck’s Rock Camp Board of Directors as they continue forward on their vision of making Buck’s Rock Camp an affordable, accessible, inclusive, safe, and equitable place, not only to the teens who attend, but throughout the entire organization. She is a single mother of Sam, a passionate and dedicated Buck’s Rocker for life who discovered Buck’s Rock in 2014 and is currently a Buck’s Rock Ceramics Counselor.
